Quartz made a giant leap away from the traditional desktop homepage units like the pencil and pushdown, and moved to a larger ad incorporated directly into their distinct layout. Check out the final product: The news stories on the HP are all stacked, showing the headline only. When the user hovers over the headline, it reveals an image associated with the article. On the "sponsored" headline for Lincoln, it revealed an image of the car. Upon click of the article, it took the user offsite to the Lincoln webpage.
And of course, the ad translated across screens to allow users to tap to reveal the image. What I like most about this ad is that it shows you just enough of the image to peak your curiosity and encourage users to reveal the entire image.
