This past year in tech was all about "wearables", from Fit Bit, Nike + Fuelband, Samsung Watch, the list goes on. All of these new technologies bring the potential for improved and useful advertising, since they make it easier to find the right customer, at the right time, and the right place. The granddaddy of all wearables is Google Glass, a much hyped technology allowing users to search the web and take photos, all with eye gestures. Last year, while I attended the Ad Monsters AdOps Mobile Conference, many online publishers were already discussing the opportunities for hyper-local ads built specifically for the Google Glass platform. With the emerging geo-fencing, GPS targeting, and dynamic ad messaging capabilities, the possibilities are endless. Imagine being able to target an audience who are at the Superbowl, a concert, or potential customers as they walk past your automotive dealership. One thing Google must plan for is ad overload, as seen in this Google Glass parody. If users experience too many ads, it can lead to disengagement of the platform.
